Yogi Adityanath Highlights Rural Women’s Role in Uttar Pradesh’s Economic Growth
Yogi Adityanath highlights how BC Sakhis, Lakhpati Didis, self-help groups and Drone Didis are expanding rural women's economic opportunities in Uttar Pradesh, while making claims about conditions before 2017 without comparative data.
Adityanath offered prayers to Goddess Kushmanda, whom he described as a traditional symbol of creation, energy and prosperity. He said providing women with opportunities could help communities move from deprivation towards hard work, self-reliance and prosperity.
The Chief Minister said the state government, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was connecting rural women with new opportunities for economic independence. He cited BC Sakhis, who provide banking services in villages, as an important link between rural communities and the formal banking system.
He also highlighted the Lakhpati Didi initiative, describing it as a marker of women's economic self-reliance. According to Adityanath, self-help groups were creating opportunities for livelihoods and entrepreneurship, while farmer-producer organisations were expanding the scope for agriculture-based employment.
The Chief Minister said women were no longer merely beneficiaries of development programmes but were becoming active participants in the rural economy. Their work, he stated, was helping shape economic activity at the village level and contributing to the state's broader development.
Technology and Rural Livelihoods
Adityanath also highlighted Drone Didis, who are bringing modern technology into agriculture. He said the initiative reflected women's expanding role in technology adoption and the development of farming practices. Such initiatives, he stated, were broadening opportunities for rural women to earn incomes, operate enterprises and participate in agriculture-related activities.
The Chief Minister contrasted the current situation with the period before 2017, claiming that women then lacked opportunities and resources and that the government lacked the policy and intent to support them. His social media message did not include comparative data to substantiate these claims.
Adityanath said women were now emerging as leaders in Uttar Pradesh's development journey, contributing to their families' prosperity while helping shape the economic direction of villages. He added that the state could become truly prosperous and strong only when women in rural areas prospered.
Framed around Sharadiya Navratri and the worship of Goddess Kushmanda, the message placed rural women's participation in banking, entrepreneurship and agricultural technology at the centre of the government's stated vision for rural development. It underscored the administration's emphasis on women's economic participation as a component of village-level growth and self-reliance.
